If you're looking for carnivorous plants in the Raleigh area, check out the Growin Green Nurseries booth at the State Farmers Market (1201 Agriculture Street, Raleigh, NC). I'm working with Scott Blount, GGN's owner, to expand his selection of carnivorous plants for sale.
Venus flytraps: These are the biggest seller. GGN has a lot of typical (some with deep red traps) and King Henry along with some Red Dragon. With a little luck, the B-52, Maroon Monster, Low Giant, and Wally cultivars will be ready for sale this year.
Sundews: GGN has lots of spathulata and capensis (typical and alba). I'll be contributing some filiformis and binata later this spring.
Pitcher plants: GGN sells a variety of species and hybrids. The species include purpurea, flava, leucophylla, minor, and rubra. The hybrids include Judith Hindle, Scarlet Belle, Bug Bat, Carolina Yellow Jacket, and others.
Nepenthes: GGN started selling a couple species of Nepenthes last summer. People were intrigued by the large pitchers hanging off the broad green leaves; not something that you're likely to see in the garden center at Home Depot or Lowe's Home Improvements. The Nepenthes were putting a good dent in the local yellow jacket population.
The Growin Green Nurseries booth is open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM. I'm usually there on Saturdays from 9 AM until some time in the afternoon. When bugs are more plentiful, we do feeding days with the Venus flytraps. The kids love it!
If you have any extra plants that you'd like to sell, drop me a line. I'm always interested in adding to the menagerie.
