Hi all! My name is Connor, and I am from Diamondhead, Mississippi. Diamondhead is on the U.S. Gulf Coast and in walking distance to native Sarracenia alata habitat! I am currently attending college at Auburn University. Here at Auburn I'm working with one of my professors on growing some Sarracenia leucophylla and S. flava var. rugelii from seed collected at Conecuh National Forest in southern Alabama. We're also growing a number of wild collected S. rubra ssp. alabamensis and ssp. wherryi!
It's great to find a carnivorous plant society located in the Southeast! We have so many carnivorous plants down here but not enough cp organizations to match!
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Connor

You certainly live in ideal climate for Sarracenia. What variants of alata are around your house?

I've seen mostly var. alata and var. rubrioperculata, maybe var. cuprea, though the site was overgrown with hardwoods like blackgum and sweet bay magnolia. With some more sun, who knows what's out there? It was just logged recently, so not too many S. alata are left unfortunately. Lack of fire was bad, but the logging was much much worse. I'm hoping the site can recover at least a little now that it's clearer. Drosera capillaris is still popping up all over.

Oh no! I hope there is still a good population out there. That makes me super sad. Alata is probably my favorite.

It's definitely one of the most underrated Sarracenia. If I remember in the spring time, I'll go out to the site and take some pictures!
